remembering 2011

since the new year has just begun, i figured i would do a post celebrating the meaning of what last year was to me. i usually try not to look back, but 2011 was such an influential year for me so i want to share my favorite photos from it. i hope you all enjoy the look back on 2011 and i wish all my readers a happy and healthy new year!


for those of you who frequently read my blog, you may recognize this picture from the 'red light special' post i did about a year ago. this shoot meant a lot to me because it was the first time i did a shoot in a low to non existent light setting. i had fun and was very pleased with how my pictures came out.


this photo means a lot to me because it was part of my first feature on a major publication. i took quite a few photos for Dope Magazine and fortunately got my own spread of photos in the magazine. it was a moment in time i'll never forget. buy the issue were my first photo spread is in at http://highbrowurban.com


this picture is one that i took inside my old scion with my good friend lance. that day was a very peaceful day for us and i really love how this picture came out in one shot. this reminds me of my old carefree life.


this was taken on the same day of the picture above. lance took this shot in a park in plainfield and i think it came out beautiful. one of my favorite shots of myself.


this is by far my most favorite single shot photo. i only took one frame to get this photo. it was the first time i felt the power of perfect single shots. this day of shooting was so much fun with my friends thomas and brinita. these photos were to celebrate their engagement earlier last year. as of december 31, 2011 they are now a happily married couple and i also have those pictures to prove it =]


this picture was taken on the day of my birthday celebration. this picture is deceiving to me because coincidentally i did not have a good 24th birthday experience. not necessarily that day, but around that time it was a really trying time for me. turning 24 opened my eyes to several things and it opened my eyes as far as my own perception as to were my life was going at the moment.


in july of last year i removed myself from jersey and moved out to the west coast in las vegas, nevada. it was the best thing i did for myself at the time and it really helped me out a lot. i love the scenery out there much more than i do here out east. i was in a very calming environment that allowed me to focus more on myself and most importantly my role as a mom. i'm thankful for every minute i had in vegas and i'm thankful for all the amazing friends i made while i was out there.


this photo was taken by my friend brandon who came out to vegas to come visit me from LA. brandon, my son, and myself took a trip to lake mead and it was a really nice time. i love this shot that brandon captured of my son and i.


this photo was taken on the way up the red rock canyon in las vegas. brandon and i took a scooter tour up the canyon and the views were nothing less than magnificent. i'll never forget how much i was so in love with nature that day. it rained heavily on us and everything, but that didn't stop us from having super fun.


my first friends from vegas were the 2Realist group and their gang. i enjoyed working with them and getting to know their environment out in vegas. i have to thank them for welcoming me with open arms and giving me a chance to show the west coast my creative abilities.


this shot was taken when i went for a walk around an unfamiliar part of town when my mom was in an appointment. i decided to take a massive walk and just take random pictures of everything around me. it was a very head clearing walk and i just remember with every step taking in deep breaths and just loving my life at the moment. this was very special to me.


this is from one of my favorite shoots that i've ever done. it's with my friend denea out in the dry beds in the las vegas desert. it was windy and a little chilly (weird) but i loved loved loved the shots i came out with. i feel like out east there aren't really that many opportunities to have crazy photo locations, so when i had the opportunity to shoot out in the desert i jumped on it as fast as i could. i loved the experience and i'll never forget it for the rest of my career. i hope to go back to the dry beds soon to take more dope photos.


2011 was the year i found my soon to be husband. i've known him ever since high school days but it was this year we reconnected in a special way. it took a lot of hard work to get where we are but i couldn't be happier with anyone else. this photo was taken while he was driving me to the airport after my first visit back home after moving to vegas.


because i was living in vegas at the time and my boyfriend was still living back home in jersey, our life was basically over skype. i really don't know how we pulled through but for months this is how we developed a love for one another and developed a bond that no one will ever be able to break. it's because of our struggles in the beginning that we are the power couple we are today.


after months of dealing with the skype life, my man came out to vegas to be with my son and i. it was the most fun i've had as my own family, and i wouldn't take back the experience for everything. not a care in the world but us. lots of great amazing memories packed into a couple days. amazing.


halloween out in vegas was seriously like no other i'd ever experienced before. everyone out there was dressed up, and i mean everyone. people were so outrageous with their costumes it must've been the best halloween i've ever seen. i hope that the rest of the halloweens during our lifetime will be as crazy as the one in vegas.


2011 marked the start of my love over all campaign. i'm thankful to those who have participated, who will participate, and who want to participate. we are still in the works on making this campaign go national. it was such an amazing feeling to see your own visions come to life on this type of scale.


this photo was taken by my boyfriend in NYC. it was such a magical night with some of our friends, and it was such a great experience at this restaurant. for me it was just a taste of how fun the rest of my life is going to be.


this is one of my favorite pictures that i took of my son this year. he is the most handsome thing on the planet to me. he means the world to me, and anyone that knows me knows that. he is destined to do great things in life, and now that the new year is here, he is about to be one more year older! he will be 4 this january 16th.


this is chinatown, nyc. this photo was taken in december when my boyfriend and i spent the whole day walking around chinatown before driving to connecticut. we had so much fun together being silly and just enjoying the moment and day with each other. it's those times and those moments that fuel me.


and lastly, this photo was taken on new years eve. it sums up everything for me. the only things that matter in my life right now are my family and my career. my boyfriend and son mean the universe to me and i promised myself i would do anything humanly possible to get us to that 'we made it' point. i look forward to a happy future full of surprises and wonderful memories.
